Uniform Mixing and Bubble-Free Results in 90 Seconds: How ZYE ZYMC-700VS Solves the Processing Challenges of Thermal-Sensitive Adhesives

Summary: Thermal-sensitive adhesives can cure prematurely when exposed to heat for too long. ZYE's ZYMC-700VS Non-Contact Material Homogenizer combines planetary centrifugal mixing and vacuum degassing in a single process, completing material processing in just 90 seconds. By minimizing high-temperature exposure, it achieves uniform mixing and effective bubble removal, offering a practical solution for applications such as electronic packaging and precision bonding.

During adhesive development and manufacturing, not all materials have good flowability at room temperature. Some adhesives remain solid or highly viscous under normal conditions and must be heated to a specific temperature before they become sufficiently fluid for processing. However, prolonged heating may accelerate chemical reactions, causing premature curing and potentially affecting subsequent processing and final product performance.

This means that as soon as the material reaches the required flowability, it enters a limited processing window that must be carefully controlled.

A ZYE customer working with adhesive materials encountered exactly this challenge during testing. How could the material be mixed and degassed quickly while it remained fluid, without excessive heat exposure affecting its properties?

To address this issue, ZYE conducted trials using the ZYMC-700VS Non-Contact Material Homogenizer. By combining planetary centrifugal mixing with vacuum degassing, the system completed the material processing cycle within 90 seconds, providing a practical process solution for thermal-sensitive adhesives.

For adhesives that remain solid at room temperature and become fluid only after heating, the main processing challenges fall into three areas.

1. Insufficient Temperature Makes Thorough Mixing Difficult

At room temperature, these materials lack sufficient flowability. Conventional stirring may struggle to effectively process the entire material volume, while the high viscosity also makes it difficult for entrapped air to escape.

2. Excessive Temperature or Prolonged Heating May Cause Premature Curing

Heating improves material flowability, but excessive temperature or extended exposure may trigger premature curing reactions. This can compromise subsequent processing and, in severe cases, result in the entire batch becoming unusable.

3. Separate Processing Steps May Cause the Material to Miss Its Optimal Processing Window

If mixing is completed first and the material is then transferred to another machine for degassing, additional handling and waiting time are required. Temperature changes during this process may also affect material flowability and processing conditions.

Therefore, the key to processing these materials is not simply to increase mixing efficiency. Instead, the process must minimize processing time under suitable temperature conditions while integrating mixing and degassing into a single operation.

ZYE's Solution

Considering the material characteristics, ZYE adopted a process strategy consisting of preheating for flowability, short-duration mixing, and simultaneous vacuum degassing.

The ZYMC-700VS Non-Contact Material Homogenizer was selected to complete the 90-second processing cycle.

Test Objective: To achieve uniform material mixing with no visible bubbles.

Experimental Procedure:

Step 1. Preheating

The oven was preheated to 80°C, and the material was heated to above 70°C until sufficient flowability was achieved. The material was then immediately transferred to the mixing and degassing process.

Preheating time must be strictly controlled. Prolonged heating may cause the material to cure prematurely.

Step 2. Mixing and Vacuum Degassing

The ZYMC-700VS was used to process the material based on the planetary centrifugal principle. Without the use of an agitator blade or direct contact with mixing components, the equipment performs mixing and vacuum degassing simultaneously.

Experimental Results
The experimental results were evaluated primarily in terms of material uniformity, visible air bubbles, and subsequent curing performance.
1. Mixing Performance: Uniform Material Distribution
After processing, visual inspection showed that the material was evenly distributed throughout, with no obvious agglomeration. The mixing objective of this test was achieved.

2. Degassing Performance: No Visible Air Bubbles
No obvious visible air bubbles were observed in the processed material, indicating that the ZYMC-700VS successfully combined mixing and vacuum degassing under the tested conditions.

3. Subsequent Curing: Normal Curing Performance
Based on the observations from this test, the processed material cured normally, with no obvious abnormalities identified.

Key Process Advantages
1. Short Processing Time Helps Reduce Premature Curing Risk
Once the material reaches the required flowability through heating, the mixing and degassing process can be completed within 90 seconds. This significantly reduces high-temperature exposure and helps prevent premature curing caused by prolonged heating.

2. Simultaneous Mixing and Vacuum Degassing in One Operation
Planetary centrifugal mixing and vacuum degassing are performed simultaneously within the same process. This helps avoid issues associated with separate processing steps, such as loss of flowability due to cooling or premature curing caused by prolonged heating. The overall workflow is also simplified.

3. Digital Parameter Management for Improved Batch-to-Batch Consistency
Key process parameters, including planetary and self-rotation speeds, vacuum level, and processing time, can be digitally stored and managed. Preset recipes can be recalled with a single operation, reducing manual input errors and improving process repeatability between batches.

Potential Applications
With the continued development of electronic packaging, precision bonding, and high-performance composite materials, certain adhesive formulations are facing increasingly demanding requirements for mixing uniformity, air bubble control, and processing temperature.

When materials exhibit both poor flowability at low temperatures and high sensitivity to heat-induced reactions, mixing and degassing equipment must not only provide the required processing capabilities but also operate within the material's specific processing window.

In this test, the ZYE ZYMC-700VS completed the mixing and vacuum degassing process within 90 seconds through simultaneous processing. The results demonstrate the feasibility of this approach for the tested thermal-sensitive adhesive.
For similar materials, preliminary small-batch testing is recommended to determine suitable preheating temperatures, maximum allowable holding times, mixing and degassing parameters, and subsequent curing performance before proceeding to process scale-up validation.

By starting with material characteristics and validating processes through practical testing, ZYE continues to develop precision mixing, homogenizing, and degassing solutions tailored to the processing requirements of advanced materials.
